Like a number of other images on the site, this one
has always impressed me with its careful attention to composition. Since I've
seen the outtakes of this series, I know that Yarka usually only made one or two
frames of a given situation, taking the time to arrange their elements in
the strongest way. Here, the dog, the two boys and the building just work.
Personally, I see similarities to the work of Cartier-Bresson, though Yarka
would be embarrassed to read that.
I'm not saying she was his equal (few
if any were) but they shared a respect for the design of their images, even when
photographing a fleeting moment.
